● 211 STUDIO ASSIGNMENT IPTS (2013) STANDARD 2 - Content Area and Pedagogical Knowledge - The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice. Picture Description: I threw a basic ceramic vessel on the wheel to align with the students’ assignment. I added the detail and made it my own by glazing it in a unique way rather than making additions or subtractions as glazing is something I enjoy as an artist. I chose to use blue and green hues for my glaze with Earth Day coming up. I used the blue glaze to represent water and I made it drip down the sides of the vessel by dipping the top edge into the glaze. I followed that by using a paint brush dipped in the blue glaze to add additional drips that I had more control over manipulating. To achieve the even green base color, I painted an underglaze all over the vessel. I also tried to make the bowl quite round to represent the earth. This piece represents myself as an artist because I love ceramics and glazing is one of my favorite aspects of ceramics which is why I chose to add my own spin on things in that stage of making the piece. Rationale:
The artwork's content is thoroughly explained within the artist's statement and is associated with additional ideas.
The artwork is very well crafted and shows an understanding of materials and tools.
● The artist's statement clearly links the artwork's expressive qualities and ideas to its design Evidence:
● 211 UNIT PLAN IPTS (2013) - STANDARD 1 - Teaching Diverse Students - The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning. Description: I am teaching the basics of throwing on the wheel through a slideshow, how-to video, and working one on one with students in order to create a simple vessel. Rationale: I want the students to learn the basics of the wheel along with ways to add texture, carving, sgraffito, and new glazing methods. Evidence:
● 211 STUDIO ASSIGNMENT ASSESSMENT IPTS (2013) -STANDARD 7 - Assessment - The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessment for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student. Description:I do not plan on having a hard document formative assessment as throwing on the wheel is messy and time consuming; therefore, I am not planning on making the students stop to fill out a formative assessment. I was planning on having a discussion with each student on their progress and what they plan to do from there. I also am gonna ask each student to tell me one method that worked really well for them and one thing they're struggling with so that I can better prepare them for the rest of the unit. Rationale: I am having a planning sheet at the beginning of the unit; therefore, I am using the method described above throughout the throwing process to see how that plan is progressing. I also had students fill out a rubric grading themselves at the end of the unit. Evidence:
● ARTIST HANDOUT AND POWER POINT IPTS (2013) STANDARD 6 -Reading, Writing, and Oral Communication - The competent teacher has foundational knowledge of reading, writing, and oral communication within the content area and recognizes and addresses student reading, writing, and oral communication needs to facilitate the acquisition of content knowledge. Description: Your artist handout from the lesson unit plan that uses the Conceptual Frameworks and the Frames. The handouts contain historical and critical information, websites, questions, vocabulary, and suggestions for further study and art making. If your unit contains other handouts you have created, include them here. Add the unit Power Point to demonstrate your diverse means of delivering information. Rationale: I elicited student response to promote thinking about meaning through artmaking by including guiding questions and bullet points in the artist handout. I included artists’ works and asked students to interpret them and think about the meaning of them when formulating ideas for their own pieces. These artists come from all different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences Evidence:
